Three large sculptures were made in the community workshops prior to AquaSculpture11, lead by visiting Indigenous artist in residence Lorraine Connelly-Northey and local artists Jo Davidson and Stephen Killick.
Tale of a Whale
This piece was inspired by recent whale sightings in Port Macquarie. Visiting Indigenous artist Lorraine Connelly-Northey designed and cut out the carpet creatures which were attached as the whale skin with help from Port Macquarie Indigenous TAFE students and other workshop participants. The Bamboo frame was constructed by local artist Stephen Killick with help from the TAFE students. The whales spout was made by local artist Marianne Woodnut with help from Lorraine and the students.
Cockles, Mussels and Squid
Local artist Jo Davidson devised the cane frameworks for the shells, which were then woven with recycled scrap materials and plastics by workshop participants including TAFE teacher and artist Jacky Beckhurst and her art students. Marianne Woodnut created the squids from plant materials and scrap carpet.
