CONFLUENCE

Confluence - a month of public art and sculpture events held in venues across the Hastings.

confluence

Confluence: Where rivers meet, convergence, flowing together, mingling of different influences, ever changing, fluid, temporary.

The name Confluence was chosen to reflect the linkage between artists, the community and the environment and also to reflect a coming together of different cultural and social perspectives.

It also reflects the strong geography of the region, dominated by the coastal and estuarine environments of stunning beaches, rivers, lakes and wetlands.

Confluence 05 Exhibition  - Port Macquarie-Hastings Regional Gallery

Detail of sculpture by Jo Davidson

This exhibition featured the work of leading women sculptors from the surrounding regions, who have been creating pertinent works, which are relevant to current sculptural practice; notably the art/science/ nature investigation.

The exhibiting artists included: Dianne Beevers, Jacky Beckhurst, Sue Bell, Jo Davidson, Jane Hosking, Jenny Hooper, Jen Short and Margrit Rickenbach.

Influences of watery and ephemeral themes with the companion events of the Aquasculpture sculpture prize exhibitions may be paramount, but specific subject criteria were not set for this exhibition. The artists were encouraged to produce work which is representative and in continuity with their studio practice.

Several of the artists work on collaborative public art commissions and are deeply involved with creative community projects. The strong sense of environmental concern and recycling of found objects becomes a commonality.
